The Roberto Clemente Center operates six service programs:
Located at 540 East 13th Street. It provides counseling and psychotherapy services with an emphasis in family counseling and family therapy. Other services provided are: individual therapy, group therapy, marital therapy, play therapy, and pharmacotherapy. Mental health professionals (Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, and Counselors), all bilingual and bicultural, provide services for an active caseload of over 300 clients. Medical Services Coordinator is Miguel Vilaro, M.D. A Continuing Day Treatment Program The Sylvia Del Villard Program Located at 215 Avenue B, provides intensive, structured, counseling and rehabilitation services. This program meets the needs of clients with severe psychiatric difficulties. It aims to: prevent psychiatric re-hospitalization, facilitate return to the community, and promote optimal community functioning in clients who are discharged from psychiatric facilities. Clients participate in daily 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. group activities, psychotherapy services, receive stabilizing medication, participate in arts & crafts groups, etc. Family and community meetings are held in the afternoons. Lunch is served daily. All staff is bilingual and bicultural. The Coordinator of Clinical Services for this program is Miguel Hernandez, CSW, (212) 387-7500. The Roberto Clemente Primary Care Service The HIV Primary Care Clinic Located at 540 E. 13th Steet is the first community-based HIV Primary Care Clinic in New York (established in 1985) re-established itself at Roberto Clemente Center in 1999. It offers comprehensive medical evaluations and treatment, including nutritional counseling, mental health services, and case management. The Coordinator of Clinical Services is Maria Santana, M.D. (212) 387-7400. The Roberto Clemente Center also operates two training and education programs: The Insititute for Family and Community Care This is the training program of the Clemente Center. It provides systems-oriented family therapy training with specialization in working with the urban poor, immigrant and Latino population. Training components include: Psychology internship/externships (Jaime Inclan, Ph.D., Coordinator, 387-7400); Social Work internship/externships (Miguel Hernandez, C.S.W., Coordinator, 387-7500), and training seminars and workshops for mental health providers. The Director of Training for the Institute for Family & Community Care is Miguel Hernandez, C.S.W. (387-7500). The Clemente Course in the Humanities Founded by Earl Shorris and first established at the Roberto Clemente Center (1995) in collaboration with Bard College. It offers poor people who have been marginalized by the mainstream educational system an opportunity to enhance the quality of their lives through college-level education in the humanities (literature, history, philosophy, writing course). Participants have the possibility of earning 6 college credits for this class. The program is offered free of charge to participants. Course Coordinator is Julie Regan (212) 387-7400. |
